Funky Monkey Freeze-Dried Organic Fruit

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Funky Monkey Freeze-Dried Organic Fruit Mixes are my new favorite snack to keep in my desk at work.

There are four flavors and they’re all my favorite:

Bananamon: Freeze-dried organic banana and organic cinnamon

Carnaval Mix: Freeze-dried organic banana, organic pineapple, apple, papaya and raisins

Jivealime: Freeze-dried organic pineapple and organic lime juice

Purple Funk: Freeze-dried organic banana and organic acai

Each of these flavors comes in cute little pouches of 110-120 calories.  Extremely flavorful and each variety tastes distinct from the others, yet equally delicious!  I appreciate their simple, wholesome ingredients, and the fact that they use no added colors or sugars, artificial flavors, or preservatives.

I’ve found that Funkey Monkey is a nutritious snack when that late afternoon hunger (er.. boredom) kicks in.

Mix It Up Print from The Bowled Series

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Mix It Up! is 8×12 photograph by Pennsylvania-based The World Is My Studio on Etsy.  $32 and also available in custom sizes.

I think this would be gorgeous framed in a kitchen.  I love the earthiness of the wood and how the bowl is empty except for the whisk.  Just think of the what you could mix up!

Coupons for Organic Foods, No download required!

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Eating Well Coupons are a great help for those of us who try to eat organic and natural foods but don’t want to break the bank.

Unlike many other online coupons, you don’t have to download any software to print them.

The selection isn’t extensive, but most coupons are $1 or more, which to me is worthwhile enough.  The products change every few weeks.  You can elect to have them email you to keep you updated.  A few of the items are obscure but many (Lundberg rice, Organic Valley milk) are mainstream yet not often on sale.

Quaker True Delights Raspberry Dark Chocolate Granola Bar

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Quaker‘s new True Delights Raspberry Dark Chocolate Granola Bar is one of the better things I’ve tasted lately.

The actual bar looks amazingly similar to this picture: huge chunks of dried raspberries and dark chocolate.  The raspberries are a bit tart and match perfectly with the raspberries and oats.  Yum.

It’s a bit more processed than most foods I eat.  Let’s check out the ingredients: WHOLE GRAIN ROLLED OATS, CORN SYRUP, SEMISWEET CHOCOLATE CHUNKS (SUGAR, CHOCOLATE LIQUOR, COCOA BUTTER, DEXTROSE, SOY LECITHIN, SALT, VANILLA), CRISP RICE (RICE FLOUR, SUGAR, MALT EXTRACT, SALT), ALMONDS, BROWN SUGAR, OLIGOFRUCTOSE, HONEY, DRIED SWEETENED RASPBERRIES (DRIED RED RASPBERRIES, SUGAR), INVERT SUGAR, SUNFLOWER OIL, GLYCERIN, COCONUT OIL. CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF FREEZE DRIED RASPBERRIES, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, FRUCTOSE, SORBITOL, WATER, SEA SALT, SOY LECITHIN, CINNAMON, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, VANILLA EXTRACT, CARAMEL COLOR, NATURAL MIXED TOCOPHEROLS (ANTIOXIDANT), MALTODEXTRIN, WHEY, SODIUM CASEINATE.

Yeah, so maybe not a health food.  But definitely worth trying with the free sample and/or $1 off coupon.

Wine Rack for Hanging on Wall

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

This is the wine rack we have hanging at home.

The story of its acquisition is typical of young adults, I suppose.  My fiance’s old roommate had gotten it from a girl he was seeing, along with a sketch of a nude woman that went behind the wine rack.  I think this girl had been an artist and the sketch was her own, though I’m hazy on that detail. In any case, it fit the aesthetic of their Upper East Side bachelor pad.

My fiance’s old roommate and this girl broke up, and a while later the lease was up and the roommates parted ways.  We ended up with the wine rack (intentionally or unintentionally I have no idea) and we did away with the nude sketch.  Now it hangs in our apartment.  We only keep empty bottles on it because we’re not sure how strong the wall and nails are.

Dave’s Gourmet Lucky Nuts

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Dave’s Lucky Nuts are both a snack and a game.  One in ten of the peanuts are extra-spicy.  Which one will it be?!

I must admit that after a few “rounds” of the game, my mouth was on fire, after which point every nut tasted super spicy.  But I couldn’t stop eating them- they were so good!  I no longer ate them daintily, one at a time, opting instead to chew entire handfuls at once.

I did manage to save half of the container to share with some friends who always enjoy food and games.  A guaranteed way to start a party off right!

Dave’s Gourmet, $6.99

Tea Mug Cozy, Hand Crocheted

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

What a brilliant idea from New Jersey-based KnitStorm on Etsy: a Hand-Crocheted Tea Mug Cozy, $14.

Transform a regular old mug into a fun way to insulate and decorate your tea with this tea mug cozy.
This cozy is flexible, and will slip right onto your cup, and has an opening so that the mug handle fits through.

Starbucks Instant Coffee: VIA Ready Brew

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Instant Coffee is about to be released in the U.S. on Tuesday (March 3, 2009).

It seems a bit ironic that after leading the way of coffee elitism, Starbucks is scrambling amid slumping sales and will try anything, including what most of us would least expect.

I am reminded of being in South America, mere kilometers from some of of the world’s finest coffee plantations whose beans ultimately fetch some of the world’s highest prices, and being served generic instant Nescafe at the restaurants and cafes!

Still, I’m not above instant coffee myself and when I’m camping or traveling it can really hit the spot.  I’d enjoy trying VIA and to compare it to other instant coffees I’ve had.

But, $9.95 for 12 servings works out to be 83 cents per serving, which is still far more expensive than brewing coffee at home (even if they’re Starbucks or other fancy beans).

Let me know if you try it!
