Who knew candy canes could get baked?
Organic Lemon Juice by Grateful Harvest
Tuesday, February 10th, 2009Lemon Shot made with organic “lemon juice and essence” by Grateful Harvest is handy to have in the fridge when you don’t have fresh lemons on hand. It’s amazing how many recipes call for lemon juice.
I like drinking water spritzed with lemon or lime juice. I find I drink a lot more water this way than if it’s plain. Add some ice and a straw and I’ll slurp it down like it’s… water?
It’s alarming how little it takes to fool my brain.
Grill Pan at Williams Sonoma, On Sale
Sunday, February 8th, 2009Calphalon One Nonstick Round Grill Pan I first noticed on Keld’s Cookin’ In The Kitchen With Z!
Normally $145, it’s on sale at Williams Sonoma for $49.99.
A nice alternative grilling for wintertime! (Or year-round for those of us without a grill or anywhere to put a grill). Zakiya cooked up some sausages, and I’m thinking panini and hambugers.
Elizabowl Fruit Bowl, Expandable
Saturday, February 7th, 2009Elizabowl Fruit Bowl can be expanded or shrunk depending on how much fruit you have.
Its designer, Sarah O’Brien, is just out of college and already has an impressive portfolio and several awards.
Watch a You Tube demonstration of this bowl with a peppy soundtrack.
Bubble Yum Vintage Coin Bank
Friday, February 6th, 2009Bubble Yum Oversized Novelty Coin Bank is cardboard and tin and vintage.
One thing I know about guys is that they like to have somewhere to put change from their pockets at the end of the day. Men’s wallets don’t have change compartments. I suppose that’s one of the ways men keep their wallets rather svelte, as opposed to my chubby wallet which often becomes hard to force shut and adds weight to my already overweight handbag, which Real Simple says is probably causing me premature spinal damage, though the article also curiously mentioned that a magazine, which I sometimes carry in my handbag along with wallet, can weigh about six pounds.
I digress. This bank would be an upgrade from the mug that we currently use (which was an upgrade from an old box). It has a plug for quick retrieval for quarters for laundry day.
Three Potato Four, $45

100 Foods for Energy, Eyesight, Sleep, Health
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009“Top 100 Foods to Improve Your Productivity” on Foodproof.
From the list:
- Top foods for energy include: eggplant, raisins, lima beans
- Top foods for improving digestion and sleep include: black beans, bran cereal, avocado
- Top foods for eyesight include: strawberries, carrots, smoothies
- Top foods for avoiding colds and other illnesses include: orange juice, bell peppers, green tea
I find lists of this nature to be a little silly, but still: I love them.
The general message of always to eat more nutrient-dense foods: fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains.
Putting it into a format like this is more exciting. An instant tonic for our worries and ailments! Or, in the least, a reminder of some super foods to work into our diets.

Hand-Woven Table Runner
Monday, February 2nd, 2009Hand-Woven Table Runner by Frederick, South Dakota-based Annikki Marttila, a.k.a. Finnish Weaver on Etsy. It’s on sale for $38.
I love table runners because they look nice during mealtime and non-mealtime alike. They can be complemented by placemats, but that’s optional. I love the colors in this runner; bright but neutral.
My aunt Peggy also lives in South Dakota, near the border with Wyoming, and is a talented weaver. She gave me a beautiful grey rug on one condition: that I would use it. She didn’t want me to keep it on a shelf to “preserve” it. Its tag reads: “By Peggy and Her Sheep.”
