The latest installment of GOOP, Gwyneth Paltrow’s health and lifestyle e-newsletter, deals with New Year’s Detox.
While I find it hard to believe that she needs to lose a few pounds, she does have some nutritious and tasty-sounding recipes including: Broccoli and Arugula Soup, Blueberry and Almond Smoothie, and Teriyaki Chicken.
Happy 2009! What are your resolutions?

What is wrong with this woman? She looks like a skeleton but “needs to lose a few pounds” and has resorted to unhealthy detoxes to do it? She really needs some help.
I agree with you q. “No dairy, grains with gluten, meat, shellfish, anything processed (including all soy products), fatty nuts, nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant), condiments, sugar and obviously no alcohol, caffeine or soda”? It doesn’t take a genius to know that if you cut virtually every food out of your diet you will lose weight.
Hi q and Sara,
I agree that she (and others) are unhealthily driven toward periodic extreme diets whereas mere moderation with a daily emphasis on good nutrition would do the trick.
I remember reading an interview with her in Allure magazine and she was going over some of her pictures. She said about one picture, “I remember this, I was on day 2 of a three day juice fast. I was dizzy.”
Not eating until the point that you have dizzy spells is no way to live.
Hi Melissa,
Yeah, maybe her New Year’s Resolution should have been to stay conscious every day!
What’s up with the page that her week-long plan was on?? It seems to have been deleted from the GOOP website. I’m so bummed because I wanted to try a couple of the recipes and now I have half the ingredients (saving to buy the rest of the exotic ingredients today at the Japanese market) and now the dang recipes are gone!!! Anyone print out the page before it got nixed?
Hi MoJo,
Oh my, you seem to be right. Maybe they got wary of a lawsuit by someone who died dieting like Gwyneth?! Did anyone jot down the recipes?
Hi! Did anyone get the detox recipes? I missed them! Thank you!
Hi Robin,
No one that I’ve heard from yet.
Anyone? Anyone?
I think it’s back up!

when detoxifying the body, i find it much better to use natural products rather than those synthetic detox products. that is why i always go after the natural detox way. but for convenience. those commercial detox kits are pretty much better..
I like the natural detox as well. The goop one wasn’t that bad– just lots of liquids and fruit. I tried one of the shakes, it was green and had pear and celery and wasn’t too awful. I think this detox is definitely doable.
